Col. Harold Glenn McKinney, MCHS graduate, 1948-2017 Harold was a 1966 graduate of Metcalfe County High School and the husband of Linda Hiser McKinney of Center who survives him. He leaves behind many friends and family members. Harold was an animal lover and pack leader to six dogs and four cats. He loved working outside growing flowers, and tending the yard. He also was caretaker of the family cemeteries. Friends may visit on Sunday, March 19, 2017, 10amCT until 2pmCT, at Hatcher and Saddler Funeral Home, 801 N Race Street, Glasgow, KY with a memorial service at 2pmCT. Cremation was honored. Burial will be later with full military rites. Col. Harold Glenn McKinney, MCHS graduate, 1948-2017 Harold was born in Madison, Jefferson County, IN July 29, 1948. He was the son of the late Hershell and Flora Mae (Garrison) McKinney. He died Thursday, March 16, 2017, in Bowling Green, Warren County, KY, at the age of 68 years, seven months, and 16 days. He was the youngest, with a brother Norwood McKinney, who preceded him in death, and three sisters, Maxine, Lillian, Marie. Harold is survived by:
Harold was an animal lover and pack leader to six dogs and four cats. He loved working outside growing flowers, and tending the yard. He also was caretaker of the family cemeteries. Harold also loved auctions and especially getting a good deal. Harold grew up in Charleston, IN. until 1965, when the family bought a farm in Metcalfe Co. Harold has since thought of KY as home but the majority of his life was spent elsewhere. He attended KY Wesleyan College and Western Kentucky before being drafted in the US Army in 1969 where he served two years as a medic. His education continued with a Bachelor of Arts History and Political Science from WKU, a Master of Art History from LSU. He had a long career in the US Air Force, attending Armed Forces Staff College, Air War College, Defense Systems Management College, Defense Institute of Security and Assistance. After retirement at the rank of colonel, Harold continued to work abroad as a consultant and contractor. In addition to the USA, Harold worked in Montenegro, Afghanistan, Norway, Germany, Georgia, Belarus, Israel, Syria, Jordan, Egypt, Korea, nearly all of the countries of Central and Eastern Europe, and the former Soviet Union.
