He was a retired insurance agent, a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church and a Veteran of US Navy. He was a native of Casey County, KY, the son of the late Emmet & Stella Roy Childress. His wife, Bernice Childress, survives. He leaves eight direct living descendants.

Herbert F. Childress, 84, of Dunnville, KY, died Thursday, January 19, 2017 at the Fair Oaks Nursing Home in Jamestown, KY.

Funeral service for Herbert F. Childress will be 11amCT/12pmNoonCT,EST. Saturday, January 21, 2017 at the Oak Grove Baptist Church with Bro. Mark Yaden & Bro. Dwight Coffman officiating. Interment in the Oak Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be after 5pmCT/6pmET, Friday, January 20, 2017, at the Bernard Funeral Home, 367 N Main Street, Russell Springs, KY, and after 9amCT/10amET, Saturday at the church. Special music will be by Mike Bastin, Church Choir.

He was born April 20, 1932 in Casey County, KY. He was the son of the late Emmet & Stella Roy Childress. He died Thursday, January 19, 20176, in Jamestown, Russell County, KY, at the age of 84 years, eight months, and 30 days.

He was a retired insurance agent, a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church and a Veteran of US Navy.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Lowell Childress, and Roy Childress; and a sister, Frances Wade.

Survivors include:
  • His wife: Bernice Childress, Dunnville, KY

  • Three children: Diana (Talmadge) Derringer, Campbellsville, KY; Brenda Gail (Gary) Gosser, Russell Springs, KY; and Robert Lee Childress, Dunnville, KY

  • Two grandchildren: Trevor Garrick (Crystal) Gosser, Russell Springs, KY; and Travis O'Neil (Michelle) Gosser, Bardstown, KY

  • Three great grandchildren: Logan Taylor Gosser, Landon Wade Gosser, and Kaleb Garrick Gosser.
