Willie Van Coop, 86, Adair Co., KY (1930-2016)

He was a member of Farmdale Baptist Church. He was retired from General Electric in Louisville, KY, and Manheim in Clarksville, IN. He was a veteran of the Korean War, serving in the U.S. Air Force from 1952 to 1960.He was a member of a respected Adair County, KY, family. He was the son of the late Hershel & Eunice Coop. His wife, Ophelia Powell Coop, survives. He leaves five direct living descendants.

Willie Van Coop age 86 years of Louisville, KY formerly of Columbia, KY passed away Sunday December 25, 2016 at his home.

The family request visitation after 2:30pmCT on Wednesday, December 28, 2016, at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home, 210 Greensburg Street, Columbia, KY.

The funeral service will be held on Thursday, December 29, 2016 at 11amCT at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home.

Interment will be in the Haven Hill Cemetery in Columbia, Ky.



Willie Van Coop, 86, Adair Co., KY (1930-2016)


He was the son of the late Hershel & Eunice Coop. He was born on August 8, 1930, and died Sunday, December 25, 2016, in Louisville, Jefferson County, KY, at the age of 86 years, four months, and 17 days.

Besides his parents, Hershel & Eunice Coop, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Fred Coop & Ray Coop.

He is survived by his wife: Ophelia Powell Coop of Louisville, KY and the following:

  • Two sons: Gregory Van (Eva) Coop of Chicago, IL; and Troy Sean Coop of Burlington KY

  • Three sisters: Helen Melton of Charlestown, IN; Marie Cantrell of Louisville, KY; and Betty Jo Coop of Columbia, KY

  • Three grandchildren: Chrisse Coop, Mikaela Coop and Mackenzie Coop.
He was a member of Farmdale Baptist Church, Retired from General Electric in Louisville, KY, and Manheim in Clarksville, IN. He was a veteran of the Korean War, serving in the U.S. Air Force from 1952 to 1960.
