Gertie M. Giles, 84, Columbia, KY (1932-2016)

She was a member of First Baptist Church and retired from Lindsey Wilson College after 17 years.

Gertie M. Giles, of Columbia, Kentucky, died Monday, November 14, 2016 at her home of a sudden illness.

Visitation will be from 5pm-8pmCT, Friday, November 18, 2016, at Grissom-Martin Funeral Home, 200 Campbellsville St., Columbia, KY, and after 11amCT on Saturday at First Baptist Church, 847 Burkesville St, Columbia, KY. The funeral service will be Saturday, November 19, 2016 at 1pmCT at First Baptist Church with Rev. Henry L. Mosley delivering the eulogy. Burial will be in Jones Cemetery.


She was born August 18, 1932 in Adair County, to the late Cary Hughes Willis and Frank Willis. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters; Susie Lee White and Mary Katherine Johnson, her brother, Nathaniel Billy Willis and a great-grandson, Demetrius "DJ" Johnson.

She was a member of First Baptist Church and retired from Lindsey Wilson College after 17 years.

Survivors include:
  • One daughter - Lynn C. Giles of Frankfort
  • Two sons - Ron H. (Tina) Giles of Frankfort, Ricky (Linda) Giles of Maryland
  • Four grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends
Casket Bearers: Shawn White, Darren Smith, Ricardo Hughes, Michael Troy White, Stanley Johnson, Everick Bradshaw

Honorary: Lynn Green, Craig Lasley, Brian White, Yves White, L.B. Smith, Danny Taylor
