Supt. Alan Reed makes statement on passing of Raquel Anyega

Adair County Schools Supt. Alan Reed issued the following statement Wednesday morning, November 2, 2016 following news of eighth grader Raquel Anyega's untimely passing:

Our hearts are once again heavy as we have just learned of the passing of Raquel Anyega, an eighth grader at ACMS. Raquel has been in critical condition following last Friday's accident in the Pellyton community.

Today we join Raquel's family, friends, school staff, and our community as we once again grieve for the loss of another young life.

Our school district has once again implemented our crisis response plan. District and regional mental health professionals and counselors immediately went into action to provide grief counseling for our students and staff. We ask parents to please monitor how your child is grieving and let us know if you feel that your child needs to speak with someone. We will continue to offer these services for an extended period of time to help everyone that has been touched by this tragedy.

Once again, our sympathies and our prayers are with Raquel's family in this time of need. We also pray for comfort for everyone that has been affected by the events over the past few days.

Classes are not in session today for two funerals. Classes will be held Thursday, November 3, 2016 with grief counselors available throughout the day. We will let you know more once the family makes funeral arrangements.
-Alan Reed, Superintendent
