Supporting Ronald McDonald House with thoughts of Evan

His parents were able to stay at the Ronald McDonald House so one of them could be with baby Evan every single visit opportunity.

By Linda Waggener

Today as we work to support the Ronald McDonald House charity, we think of the exact moment when it became so important in our family. Evan's mother Amy put what was happening into words when she wrote of her thankfulness on his birthday this year -- "Every June 14, for 13 years, I've been awake around 5:20 (no alarm needed), counting my lucky stars for Dr. Randy King, Dr. Lyn Martin, and the wonderful nurses in Owensboro who fought so hard for our wonderful Evan. For Dr. Skip Neblett and all the fabulous doctors and nurses at Vandy. For all our family and friends and churches who dropped everything to take care of Graham and us.

Happy 13th birthday to the one who makes us laugh and pull our hair out. A fabulous big brother and little brother at the same time. The ferocious goalkeeper with a heart as big as the world. Smart and smart Alec. The talkative fisherman. He's a paradox that makes our days brighter! Welcome to the teens, Evan!" -- Mom Amy Waggener
