Herman Wood (H.W.) Roach, Adair County, KY (1926-2016)

He was one of Adair County's most honored leaders.Mr. Roach was a graduate of Breeding High School. Upon graduation, he entered the U.S. Navy, serving in World War II from 1944-1946, in the Pacific Theatre. Mr. Roach was a retired farmer and businessman. He was a faithful member of Beulah Chapel Brethren in Christ Church and served many years as a Deacon, Sunday School Superintendent and Sunday School Teacher. He was dedicated to community service as well: Adair County Farm Bureau Board of Directors for 40 years, KY Farm Bureau Federation Board of Directors, member of VFW Post 6097, member of the Adair County Fair Board, Adair County Water District Board of Directors and a member of Gideons International. He was the son of the late Lou Willia & A.H. Roach and the widower of Ruby McKinney Roach. He leaves seven direct living descendants.

Herman Wood (H.W.) Roach, 90, of Greer, SC, died July 28, 2016 at Open Arms Hospice after a brief illness.

Funeral service will be Saturday, August 6, 2016 at 11amCT, at Beulah Chapel Brethren in Christ Church, 4262 Liberty Road, Columbia, KY, with Bro. Clifton Bennett officiating. Burial will be in in Haven Hill Cemetery, 1276 Liberty Road, Columbia, KY. Visitation will be after 4:30pmCT, Friday, August 5, 2016 at Grissom-Martin Funeral Home and after 9:00 A.M. Saturday, August 6, 2016 at the church.

H.W. was born in Breeding, Adair County, KY, on Tuesday, May 25, 1926, to the late Lou Willia and A.H. Roach. He died Thursday, July 28, 2016, in Greer, SC, at the age of 90 years, two months, and three days.

In addition to his parents, H.W. was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Ruby McKinney Roach.

Mr. Roach was a graduate of Breeding High School. Upon graduation, he entered the U.S. Navy, serving in World War II from 1944-1946, in the Pacific Theatre. Mr. Roach was a retired farmer and businessman. He was a faithful member of Beulah Chapel Brethren in Christ Church and served many years as a Deacon, Sunday School Superintendent and Sunday School Teacher. Survivors include:
  • Two sons: Hal (Katie) Roach of Greenville, SC; and Brent (Tamara) Roach of Statesville, NC

  • Five grandchildren: Katherine Roach, Cherylyn Groh, Michael Groh, John Roach, and Olivia Roach

  • His extended family: Kenneth Ballou, Gary and Doris Lane, Murray and Juanita Scott, Donald and Bobbie McKinney, Harold and Carol McKinney

  • Numerous nieces, nephews and special friends.
