Martha Dean (Murrell) Brockman, 85, Adair Co., KY (1930-2016)

She was born in Adair County, KY and was a resident of Marion County, IN at the time of her death. She was the daughter of the late James A. And Mattie M. Beard Murrell and the widow of James Ores Murrell. She leaves 14 direct living descendants. Locally she is survived by William "Billy" Murrell of Columbia, KY. She was an insurance agent for Brockman & Israel Insurance Company. She worked with the Gideons International, distributing Bibles. Martha was a member of JOY (Women's group), and University Heights Christian Church. She attended Mt. Pleasant Christian Church, Greenwood, IN. Martha enjoyed listening to gospel music, sewing, bird watching, and teaching Vacation Bible Church.

Martha Dean (Murrell) Brockman, 85, of Beech Grove, IN passed away on Sunday, July 17, 2016, in Beech Grove.

The family is hosting a visitation from 5pm-7pmCT/6pm-8pmET, Wednesday, July 20, 2016, at the Jessen Funeral Home, Whiteland Chapel, 729 U.S. Hwy 31, Whiteland, IN. A service is being conducted at 10amCT/11amET, on Thursday, July 21, 2016 also at the Jessen Funeral Home, Whiteland Chapel. Burial will be at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens, 1977 S State Rd 135, Greenwood, IN.

She was born August 8, 1930, in Columbia, Adair County, KY. She was the daughter of the late James A. and Mattie M. (Beard) Murrell. She died Sunday, July 17, 2016, in Beech Grove, IN, at the age of 85 years, 11 months, and 21 days.

Martha married her husband, William Ores Brockman on January 1, 1949, in Glasgow, KY.

She was an insurance agent for Brockman & Israel Insurance Company. She worked with the Gideons International, distributing Bibles. Martha was a member of JOY (Women's group), and University Heights Christian Church. She attended Mt. Pleasant Christian Church, Greenwood, IN. Martha enjoyed listening to gospel music, sewing, bird watching, and teaching Vacation Bible Church. Martha is survived by the following:
  • Two children; Debbie (Terry) Wieckert of Indiana, and Jeff (Kimberly) Brockman of Nicholasville, KY

  • A brother: William "Billy" (Rita) Murrell of Columbia, KY

  • Seven grandchildren: Melinda Nowacki, Brian Brunning, Matthew Brockman, Andrew Brockman, Amanda Patty, Kristina Welker, and Cassandra Carothers

  • And five great-grandchildren: Jonathan Frost, Brian Brunning, Keith Brunning, Mackenzie Welker, and Logan Welker.
She was preceded in death, by her husband, William Ores Brockman; her parents James and Mattie (Beard) Murrell; and a son-in-law, Robin Brunning.
