Columbia Police update story of suspect who fell off bluff This update includes many added details to next previous article in this thread, Suspect, fleeing CPD, falls over bluff in Green Hills area, including heretofore unposted details of the chase, the suspect's fall over the Sulphur Creek Cliff, his rescue, and transport to TJ Health/Columbia, the airlift to Louisville, and his status, in recovery at UL Medical Center, with a Columbia Police officer standing watch over the man remains in the custody of the Columbia Police Department. Josh Brockman, Public Information Officer Columbia Police Department, Jason Cross, Chief Today, Wednesday, June 1, 2016 at 02:48amCT, Columbia Police Officer Josh Brockman Ofc Johnny Dial and Deputy Justin Cross responded to complaint of a suspicious vehicle in the Green Hills area of Columbia. CPD Ofc Brockman located a 2002 Honda operating with no headlights leaving a residence and conducted a traffic stop. Officers detect odor of marijuana During the investigation Officers observed the odor of marijuana in the vehicle and occupants appeared to be under influence of intoxicating substance it, was also learned that 30 year old Dale Shibley of Louisville had 4 outstanding warrants for arrest. As officers attempted to place him under arrest a scuffle ensued and Shibley fled officers on foot. The foot pursuit crossed a large hayfield then entered into the woods. The pursuit came to an end when Shibley ran off an approximately 20 ft high bluff and landed on bank next to Sulphur Creek. Officers had to go a distance downstream to find a place to climb down and wade upstream back to his location. Adair County EMS employee Lee Powell came down the bluff and immobilized Shibley to reduce potential injury and stood by him, monitoring him, for aproximately an hour until more help arrived. Adair EMD Mike Keltner, Breeding AVFD, Shibley raised back to top of bluff With Assistance from Adair County EMS, Breeding Volunteer Fire Department technical rescue team, and Adair County Emergency Management Director Mike Keltner, the officers were able to safely bring Shibley back to top of bluff. Shibley was transported to TJ Health/Columbia, then was airlifted by Air Methods helicopter to University of Louisville Medical Center. Shibley was arrested by CPD Ofc. Josh Brockman on charges of trafficking in a controlled substance 1st degree methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphenalia, resisting arrest, escape 3rd degree, fleeing and evading police 2nd degree, wanton endangerment and possession of marijuana. Shibley faces outstanding warrants from Bullitt and Jefferson County In addition to his Adair County charges outstanding warrants from Jefferson County and Bullitt County were served on him. As of this release Shibley is still at UofL and is being treated for a fracture in his back. Shibley is still in custody with CPD Ofc Drew Conn standing watch in his hospital room.
