LWC Baseball hosts Brescia at 5pmCT, Wednesday, April 12, 2016, at Egnew Park, 928 Russell Road, Columbia, KY By David Gerhart COLUMBIA, KY - The 24th-ranked Lindsey Wilson baseball team steps out of conference play this week as they host eighth-ranked Tennessee Wesleyan on Wednesday at 3pmCT, followed by a contest against Brescia (KY) on Wednesday at 5pmCT. The Blue Raiders are coming into the week with a record of 28-16 after they took the final two games of the weekend series against Cumberland (TN) to take two of the three games from the Phoenix. Edgar Lebron has led Lindsey Wilson with 55 hits, 43 runs and a batting average of .379. Lebron has also stole a team-high 19 bases this season. Aaron Ashton has compiled a .342 batting average, while recording a team-high 44 RBIs. On the mound, the Blue Raiders have combined for a 4.23 ERA, while allowing opposing hitters to average .285 against them. The 344 and 1/3 innings pitched from the Lindsey Wilson pitching staff is 11th most in the NAIA this season. Tennessee Wesleyan comes into the weekend with a record of 29-9 and they have won their last seven games. The Bulldogs rank second in the nation with a 2.32 ERA and sixth in strikeouts with 338. Leading the offense for Tennessee Wesleyan has been Pedro Barrios with a .427 batting average, while Wardy Polanco has led the team with 12 home runs and 30 RBIs. Brescia is 8-31 on the season coming into the week, but they have won three of their last four games after losing 12-strigaht games. Zach Johnson has led the Bearcats with 25 hits this season, while Shawn Callis has recorded a team-high 16 RBIs. On the mound, Brescia has combined for a 7.54 ERA over 271 innings of work. Last season, Lindsey Wilson and Tennessee Wesleyan met once during the regular season and the Bulldogs were able to come away with a 9-5 victory. The two teams were also placed in the same opening round bracket, where the Blue Raiders beat Tennessee Wesleyan twice, 10-1 and 4-1 to punch their ticket to the NAIA World Series.
