COLUMBIA, KY (Sat 9 Apr 2016) - The 24th-ranked Lindsey Wilson baseball team dropped the first game of a three-game series against Cumberland (Tenn.) as they lost 7-6 at Egnew Park on Saturday afternoon.

In a game that started out as a pitcher's duel, the Blue Raiders (26-16, 7-6 Mid-South Conference) found themselves down by four runs heading into the bottom of the ninth inning against the Phoenix (25-17, 8-5 MSC). The Lindsey Wilson comeback fell short as they scored three runs in the bottom of the ninth inning as they fell 7-6.

Brandon Munoz led the Blue Raiders with two hits and two RBIs in the game, while Austin Atwell also drove in two runs in the game. Scott Sebald pitched eight and 1/3 innings allowing five runs -- three earned -- on seven hits.

Both pitchers controlled the game through the early portion of the game as the Cumberland pitcher, Erik Barron, did not allow a hit until the fifth inning when Dustin Woody broke up the no-hitter after bunting for a base hit. Sebald carried his no-hit bid into the sixth inning, where it was broken up by a Kyle Allen single to centerfield.

The Phoenix ended the scoreless tie in the seventh inning after a Nick McGrew doubled to right-centerfield with one out in the inning. After a groundout moved McGrew to third base, he scored on a Gabe Lares single with two outs.

In the home half of the seventh inning, the Blue Raiders rebounded with three runs in the inning. Ryan Harper was hit by a pitch and Woody followed with a single to left field to put two runners on base with one out. A sacrifice bunt from Caleb Ratzman allowed the runners to move up a base and Harper later scored on a Phoenix error, which kept the inning alive.

With the game tied at one, Edgar Lebron -- who reached on the error -- moved up to second base on a wild pitch. Munoz then drove in his two runs of the game with double to deep left field to give Lindsey Wilson a 3-1 lead after seven innings of play.

After a scoreless eighth inning, the game was broken open in the ninth inning.

Cumberland led off the ninth inning with a back-to-back singles and a sacrifice bunt from Lares placed two runners in scoring position with one out for the Phoenix. Josh Croft sent a single up the middle to drive in two runs for Cumberland to tie the game, 3-3. Croft was able to move all the way to third base on the play after a wild throw from Lebron. A sacrifice squeeze play from the Phoenix brought in their fourth run of the inning.

A Lindsey Wilson error kept the inning alive for Cumberland and they scored one run on the error. Following a walk and wild pitch the Phoenix had two more runners in scoring position with one out in the inning. Ryan Dickison plated the final two runs for the Phoenix with a single through the left side of the infield, as Cumberland took a 7-3 lead into the bottom of the ninth inning.

The Blue Raiders did not go down without a fight as Ratzman singled and Lebron followed with a double to start the home half of the ninth inning. After a strikeout, Aaron Ashton was able to reach base on walk to load the bases for Lindsey Wilson. Atwell delivered a one-out double to left-centerfield to score Ratzman and Lebron.

Miguel Reyes reloaded the bases for the Blue Raiders with a walk. Alec Salcedo came into pinch hit and he hit a fielder's choice to the Phoenix second basemen. Ashton was able to score from third on the fielder's choice, while Cumberland forced out Reyes at second base. With two outs in the inning and Lindsey Wilson trailing 7-6, Harper popped out in the infield to end the game.

Cumberland hung on to win the game 7-6 as they moved ahead of the Blue Raiders in the Mid-South Conference standings.

Barron (2-1) pitched eight innings for the Phoenix to pick up the win, while Joshua Mollet picked up his third save of the season. Barron allowed three runs -- none earned -- on five hits in the game.

Despite dropping to 5-3 on the season, Sebald posted eight strikeouts in the game as he became the programs career leader in the strikeouts with 249. The Blue Raiders have lost five-straight games as they are now tied for fourth in the MSC standings.
