Travel Alert: KYTC District 8 crews treating roads once again By Amber Hale, Public Affairs Offier KYTC District 8 - Adair, Casey, Clinton, Cumberland, Lincoln, McCreary, Pulaski, Rockcastle, Russell and Wayne counties. SOMERSET, KY (12 Feb 2016) - Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) District 8 highway crews reported for duty early this morning as another round of winter weather has moved into the area. Most roads continue to remain wet with some areas of snow coverage, but crews are working. If snow continues travel conditions could worsen. Motorists need to allow extra time and use caution during their morning commute. Please slowdown and allow extra space between vehicles. Kentucky Transportation Cabinet District 8 is responsible for maintaining approximately 5,209 lanes miles throughout Adair, Casey, Clinton, Cumberland, Lincoln, McCreary, Pulaski, Rockcastle, Russell and Wayne counties. When winter precipitation starts to fall, road crews focus on interstates, parkways and other high volume roadways first. Secondary and rural roads will be salted and plowed once the main routes have been cleared. To view the priority network for snow removal, go to Snow Removal Priorities. Road condition updates are available by calling 511 or by logging onto the 511 traffic and travel information website, 511.ky.gov/.
