Happy 106th Birthday, Lora Isabelle Webb Atwell

In 2010, six years ago, the visit notes below took place between Geniece Marcum, Senior Quest Magazine editor, and Lora Isabelle Webb Atwell (Mrs. Victor Atwell), at her home in Center in northern Metcalfe County Ky., on March 20, 2010 just after Lora turned one hundred years young.

Young is a key word when describing Lora Atwell because with the help of her son Jimmy Dale and his wife June, Lora is able to live in her own home and take care of it and herself.

It was June and Jimmy Dale who opened their home to family and friends in celebration of Lora's special day and everyone enjoyed celebrating the day with her.

Lora was a native of the Big Meadow area of Barren County. The eleven Webb brothers and sisters included: Clarence Huford, Buford Elbert, Beulah Lee, Mary Ina, Henry Burl, Lilly Vieve, Walter Ray, Verley May, William Lester, Sherman Ernest and Lora Isabelle. Her family enjoyed longevity including four who also lived to, or near to, the century mark. Lilly, Lora and Beulah all reached the 100-year birthday mark.

Helping with the interview (or hindering because they talked a lot) were Lora's daughter in law, June Long Atwell, a native of nearby Hiseville, and Geniece's oldest daughter, Linda Marcum Waggener of Columbia, Ky.

June said that Lora gets up every morning and dresses and gets herself ready for the day. According to her, Lilly was able to drive way up into her 90s. June said, "She'd pick Lora up and they'd go for a full day and still have more energy left at the end of the day than I would."

Now, six years later, Mrs. Atwell will celebrate her 106th birthday on February 3, 2016. Happy birthday!! Click here for a photo of Lora Atwell made by Elaine Pruitt on Lora's birthday last year.
