Mr. Garland Lee Matney, 85, Green Co., KY (1930-2016)

He had made a profession of faith in Christ and was a member of the Maple Hill United Methodist Church. He was retired as a Lumber Inspector for the former Greensburg Manufacturing Co. He was a native of Green County, KY, and was a resident of the county at the time of his death in Taylor County, KY. He was the son ofthe late LoydA Matney and the late Faye Young Matney. His wife of 59 years, Rosie Gibson matney, survives. He leaves 23 direct living descendants.

Mr. Garland Lee Matney, 85, of Greensburg, Kentucky, departed this life on Tuesday, January 19, 2016 at the Taylor Regional Hospital, Campbellsville, Kentucky.

The funeral services for Mr. Garland Lee Matney will be conducted at 1pmCT, Monday, January 25, 2016 at the Cowherd and Parrott Funeral Home, 206 S Main Street, Greensburg, KY, with burial to follow in the Maple Hill Cemetery in Green County. (Weather permitting) Bro. Cliffton Sullivan and Bro. Robert Adkins will be officiating. Visitation is requested from 4pm until 8pmCT, Sunday at the Cowherd and Parrott Funeral Home and after 7amCT, Monday until time of the funeral service. (Weather permitting)



Pallbearers: Harlan Curry, Kenny Jewell, Brent Matney, Robert Adkins, Timothy Edwards, Steven Bishop, and Keith Jewell.

Mr. Garland Lee Matney, 85, Green Co., KY (1930-2016)

Mr. Garland Lee Matney of Greensburg, Kentucky, son of the late Loyd A. Matney and Faye Young Matney, was born on December 7, 1930 in Green County, Kentucky and departed this life on Tuesday, January 19, 2016 at the Taylor Regional Hospital in Campbellsville, Kentucky. He was 85 years, one month, and 12 days of age.

He had made a profession of faith in Christ and was a member of the Maple Hill United Methodist Church. He was retired as a Lumber Inspector for the former Greensburg Manufacturing Co.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Rosie Gibson Matney of Greensburg, having united in marriage on February 10, 1956. Other survivors include:
  • Two sons and a daughter-in-law: Larry and Lisa Matney, and Jeff Matney all of Greensburg, KY

  • Eight grandchildren: Kristy Sullivan of Greensburg, KY; Shelly Bishop of Campbellsville, KY; Miranda Vaughn of Greensburg, KY; Cherita Wright of Columbia, KY; Casey Matney of Greensburg, KY;Christopher Adkins of Elizabethtown, KY; and Lucas Milby, and Blake Matney both of Greensburg, KY

  • Thirteen great-grandchildren

  • A sister: Rosie Hurt of Greensburg, KY

  • Two brothers and a sister-in-law: Maxie and Debbie Matney of Greensburg, KY; and Jerry Matney of Indiana

  • and a host of other relatives and friends
Mr. Matney was also preceded in death by three children: Gary Matney in 1979, Sandra Adkins in 2000, and Rhonda Matney in 2013; two sisters: Eva Doris Jewell and Juanita Rock; and three brothers: Junnie Matney, Dennis Matney, and William Matney.

Memorials are suggested to the Maple Hill Cemetery which can be made at the funeral home.
