Travel Advisory: Road Conditions & Winter Weather Update

By Chris Jessie, Public Information Officer KY Transportation Cabinet, District 4, Elizabethtown, KY

As expected, a quick moving round of winter precipitation required treatment of area roads overnight into Sunday morning. Plowable snow amounts were limited to northwestern portions of the district (Breckinridge, Grayson, Hardin and Meade Counties). Skifts of snow also dusted roads to the south and east.

KYTC crews are finished plowing in all counties and are currently spot treating areas where accumulation occurred. Many slick spots were also created by residual moisture from earlier rains and melted snow. Temperatures dropped too quickly for drying to take place. Motorists should be aware of these areas all the way through the Monday morning commute.

Temperatures overnight will drop below the threshold for typical treatment options to be effective. Once spot treating is completed this afternoon - and with plowing operations complete - snow and ice teams will not be activated again until early Monday morning. On a localized level, crews will be on call to respond to any significant trouble spots. - Chris Jessie
