Mom Fern Murphy, 91, Casey County, KY (1924-2015)

Mrs. Murphy was a member and former Sunday School Secretary for the Walnut Hill Separate Baptist Church. She was a former store clerk at Hill's and a former Teacher's Aid for the Casey County School System. Mrs. Murphy was an avid quilter and a homemaker.

"Mom Fern" Murphy of Murphy Valley Road in Casey County, passed away on Tuesday, November 3, 2015, at her residence. She was 91.

Funeral services will be held at 1pmCT/2pmET, Saturday, November 7, 2015, at McKinney-Brown Funeral Home. 752 Campbellsville Street, Liberty, KY, with Bro. Rodney Smith officiating. Burial will follow in the Murphy Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 9am-1pmCT/10am-2pmET, on Saturday. Pallbearers will be Ken Lay, John Rudolph, Greg Yaden, Isaac Lay, Casey Patterson, and Aaron Clinkenbeard. Honorary pallbearers will be Jett and Jack Rudolph.

Born June 9, 1924, in Casey Co., KY, she was a daughter of the late Tommie C. and Lydia Wesley Elliott.

Mrs. Murphy was a member and former Sunday School Secretary for the Walnut Hill Separate Baptist Church. She was a former store clerk at Hill's and a former Teacher's Aid for the Casey County School System. Mrs. Murphy was an avid quilter and a homemaker.

She is survived by the following:
  • Her husband of 72 years: Edwin Murphy

  • Daughters: Judy (and Boyd) Brown of Liberty, KY; and Janie (and Paul) Rudolph of Louisville, KY

  • Four grandchildren: Kenneth Edwin Lay, Lydia Jo Yaden, Jamie Boyd Patterson, and Jonathon Rudolph

  • Five great-grandchildren: Corey, Isaac, Mattie, Jack, and Jett

  • One great-great grandson: Arthur, due in January.

  • Mrs. Murphy was preceded in death by her brothers: Oris, Gid, and Clovis Elliott and sisters: Irene Spears, Cloma Murphy, and Pauline Pittman Estes.

    In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Gideon Bibles. Arrangements entrusted to McKinney-Brown Funeral Home, 757 Campbellsville Street, Liberty, KY, with online guestbook available.
