Lawrence Martin Burton, Jr., Adair Co. native (1929-2015)

He was a proud veteran of the United States Army who served during the Korean War as a paratrooper. Lawrence was a mechanic by trade and loved fishing. He was born in Vester, Adair County, KY, a member of a large, highly respected Northeastern Adair County, KY family. He was the son of the late Lawrence Sr. & Emma Irene Streeval Burton. He leaves 22 direct living descendants.

Lawrence Martin Burton, Jr., 85, passed away on Wednesday, October 7, 2015 at his residence in Hardinsburg, Indiana.

Burial will take a place at 12pmCT/1pmET on Friday, October 9, 2015 at the Indiana Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 415 North Gate Road, Madison, IN 47250. Full military honors will be conducted.



He was formerly of Adair County, KY.

He was a proud veteran of the United States Army who served during the Korean War as a paratrooper. Lawrence was a mechanic by trade and loved fishing.

He was born on December 24, 1929 in Vester, Adair County, KY. He was the son of the late Lawrence Sr. & Emma Irene (Streeval) Burton. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Hilda (Rush) Burton; brother, Norman Burton; sisters, Dorlis Stone & Pauline Harding; grandson, John Joseph Milligan.

He is survived by the following:
  • His children: Sharon Etheridge (Ricky), Danny Burton, Cindy Hopper (Roy), Michelle Milligan (Rick) & Chon Hopper (Ryan)

  • Siblings, Leoda Stephens of Indianapolis, IN, Charlotte Scott of Paducah, KY, and locally in Columbia, KY by Donald Burton & his wife Anna

  • Nine grandchildren

  • Seven great grandchildren

  • and one great-great grandchild
