Callie Mae Matney Houk, 92, Green Co., KY (1923-2015)

She had made a profession of faith in Christ, was a member of the Greasy Creek Cemetery, and was a homemaker. She was born in Green County, KY, her home at the time of her death and where she will be laid to rest. She was the daughter of the late Lewis Matney and Rindie Neagle Matney, and the widow of Vernon L. Houk, her over 66 years. She was the matriarch of a large, highly regarded family. She leaves 27 direct living descendants spanning four generations.

Mrs. Callie Mae Matney Houk, 92, of Greensburg, Kentucky, departed this life on Saturday, September 26, 2015 at the Campbellsville Nursing & Rehab Center, Campbellsville, KY.

The funeral services for Mrs. Callie Mae Matney Houk will be conducted at 11amCT, Monday, September 28, 2015 at the Greasy Creek Baptist Church, 7100 Edmonton Road, Greensburg, KY, with burial to follow in the Greasy Creek Cemetery. Bro. Wilburn Bonta, Bro. Mark Lile, and Bro. Roger Robertson will be officiating. Visitation is requested from 4pmCT until 8pmCT, Sunday, September 27, 2015 at the Cowherd and Parrott Funeral Home, 206 S Main Street, Greensburg, KY and after 9amCT, Monday at the Greasy Creek Baptist Church until time of the funeral service.


Pallbearers: Tommy Ray, Kirby Ray, Scottie Paxton, Jonathan Paxton, Jared Ervin, Stephen Houk, Noah Curry, and Sarah Hayes.

Honorary pallbearers: Jacob Hayes, Griffin Hayes, Nick Paxton, Emma Lee Paxton, Gracie Paxton, Kiley Jo Ervin, J.T. Pruitt, Matthew Pruitt, Andrew Pruitt, Josie Pruitt, Ava Chessner , Kelsey Williams, Cortney Williams, Auria Glass, Brentley Hunt, and Carter Pruitt.

Mrs. Callie Mae Matney Houk of Greensburg, Green County, KY. She was the daughter of the late Lewis Matney and Rindie Neagle Matney, was born on July 12, 1923 in Green County, and departed this life on Saturday, September 26, 2015 in Campbellsville, Taylor County, KY.. She was 92 years, two months, and 14 days of age.

She had made a profession of faith in Christ, was a member of the Greasy Creek Cemetery, and was a homemaker.

She united in marriage to Vernon L. Houk on July 14, 1941 who preceded her in death on October 3, 2008.

Survivors include the following:
  • A son and daughter-in-law: Joey and Jennifer Houk of Greensburg, KY

  • Two daughters: Sandra Houk Ervin, and Jewell Houk and her special friend, Tommy Judd all of Greensburg, KY

  • A brother-in-law: Floyd Houk of Greensburg, KY

  • Eight grandchildren

  • Twelve great-grandchildren

  • Four great-great-grandchildren

  • and a host of other relatives and friends
Mrs. Houk was also preceded in death by a son: Jerry Wayne Houk; a son-in-law: Randall Ervin; two brothers; and five sisters.
