Aimee Reed Kidd: My dad is a true leader

And Alan Reed's' daughter says she's always a proud follower

By Aimee Reed Kidd

If you know my dad, you know he's a true leader by example.

He led my brother and I when our lives were shattered by the loss of our mother as little children.

He lead our family by working two – sometimes three – jobs to make sure we had all what we needed and to better our lives.

He led his parents, helping to arrange every fine detail to make their final days as comfortable as possible. He helped lead his younger brother and sister through the dark days that followed the loss of their mom and dad.

He leads teachers and staff, and most importantly to him, students, as they work toward a brighter future under his guidance.

I've seen him vacuum floors and empty trash cans, never expecting anyone to do something that he wouldn't do himself.

That's what my dad does. He leads. And I'll always be a proud follower.

Mr. Reed's leadership affirmed, by board, community, daughter

2015-09-26 - 1204 Greensburg Street, Columbia, KY - Photo by Ed Waggener. The continued success of Superintendent Alan W. Reed's leadership was in doubt a few minutes after this photo was taken September 17, 2015, when the vote on his contract left the future of the schools surge to the top in doubt. Thanks to Division 2's Quinn Lasley, who initiated a new Special Called Board meeting after consulting with her constitutions, the vote was reversed to 3-2 to give the Superintendent a new four year contract. The action took place Thursday, September 24, 2015. Community outpouring was overwhelming in support of the superintendent. His daughter, Aimee Reed Kidd, relieved after the second vote, was not surprised. He's always been a leader, she wrote, coming through for the family again - and again. - EW. (The stories about the crisis may be the biggest news event of the 21st century in Adair County. The story drew broad interest far beyond the seven county area.
