Crowd erupts in standing ovation after Mr. Reed voted in, 3-2 Four more years. Adair County Schools stay the course, after Superintendent Alan W. Reed receives new contract extending his tenure, on a 3-2 vote. Click on headline for complete story with photo(s) By Larry Smith, The Wave 92.7 & The Big Dawg There were some tense moments, but tonight, by a 3-2 vote, Superintendent Alan W. Reed was given a four year contract to head the Adair County School Board. The board conference room was packed, and when the vote was taken, the crowd burst into applause and gave Mr. Reed a standing ovation. Quinn Lasley, the swing vote who had announced her intention this week to vote for renewing Mr. Reed's contract suggested, that instead of a four year contract, the extension should be for two. Superintendent Reed responded that if he were not given a four year term, then he was out. Ms. Lasley asked if the board could recess, and Board Attorney Jeff Hoover said they could, but they could not talk about it. Mrs. Lasley responded that it that were the case, she did not want to recess. At that point Chairman Floyd Burton moved that Mr. Reed be rehired for four more years, and Quinn Lasley gave a second. On the vote, Floyd Burton, Ms. Lasley, and Mike Harris voted for the contract; Lisa Burton and Terry Harvey voted against it. This story was posted on 2015-09-24 18:32:54
