Mr. Cecil Hall Dyer, 82, Burkesville, KY (1932-2015)

He was a Member and Trustee of Grider United Methodist Church where he also taught a young adult Sunday school class for 25 years, he received his Masters Degree from the University of Kentucky and his Rank I from Western Kentucky University, he was an Agriculture Teacher at Cumberland County High School for 27 years, a State Farm Insurance Agent for 32 years, a Retired Major in the U. S. Army having served 23 years total, Active duty and Reserve, a Lifelong Farmer, a Director of First and Farmers National Bank, a member of the Reserve Officers Association, the Retired Teachers Association, U. K. Alumni Association, a Master Mason of the Cumberland Lodge #413 F. and A. M. and a Kentucky Colonel. His wife of over 62 years, Vallie Dawn Lewis, survives. He leaves six direct living descendants.

Mr. Cecil Hall Dyer, age 82, of Burkesville, Kentucky, passed away on Saturday, May 30, 2015 at The Medical Center in Bowling Green, KY.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1pmCT, on Wednesday, June 3, 2015 in the Memory Chapel of Norris-New Funeral Home, 601 N Main Street, Burkesville, KY, with Rev. Neil Janes, Judge Steve Hurt and Bro. Barry Davis officiating. Burial will be in the Grider Memorial Cemetery in Burkesville, KY with Military Honors by the D. A. V. Chapter 105 from Monticello, Kentucky. The family will receive friends after 1pmCT on Tuesday, June 2, 2015 until the funeral hour on Wednesday.

He was born in the Mud Camp Community in Cumberland County, KY on Wednesday, July 6, 1932, the son of Barnie Ray and Bercie Anderson Dyer. He died Saturday, May 30, 2015, in Bowling Green, Warren County, KY, at the age of 82 years, 10 months, and 24 days.

He was a Member and Trustee of Grider United Methodist Church where he also taught a young adult Sunday school class for 25 years, he received his Masters Degree from the University of Kentucky and his Rank I from Western Kentucky University, he was an Agriculture Teacher at Cumberland County High School for 27 years, a State Farm Insurance Agent for 32 years, a Retired Major in the U. S. Army having served 23 years total, Active duty and Reserve, a Lifelong Farmer, a Director of First and Farmers National Bank, a member of the Reserve Officers Association, the Retired Teachers Association, U. K. Alumni Association, a Master Mason of the Cumberland Lodge #413 F. and A. M. and a Kentucky Colonel.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Crit Webb and Susie Margaree Fudge Lewis.

He is survived by his wife, Vallie Dawn Lewis Dyer, whom he married on Saturday, September 20, 1952, and the following:
  • His sons: Barry L. (and Katharin) Dyer of Nashville, TN; Dr. Brian (and Vickie) Dyer of Burkesville, KY

  • His granddaughters: Emily Dyer, Lauren Dyer, Julia Dyer and Kristen Dyer
In lieu of flowers, contributions appreciated to the Cecil Hall Dyer Memorial Scholarship Fund, Grider United Methodist Church and/or the American Diabetes Association.
