Ruby Roach, Adair County, KY (1933-2015)

She was a member of a highly distinguished Adair County, KY family. She was the daughter of the late Nancy Lou & Eugene McKinney. Her husband, H.W. Roach, survives. She leaves seven direct living descendants. She was a graduate of Columbia High School ('52), Lindsey Wilson College (associate's degree '54), Berea College (bachelor's degree '56) and Western Kentucky University, where she received her master's degree and Rank One Certification. Ruby began her career in education in Barren County, Kentucky. After she married H.W. Roach on July 2, 1958, she transferred to the Adair County School System. There she served as Home Economics teacher, as well as a High School Guidance Counselor for 37 years, retiring in 1995. In 2000, she received an Honorary Doctorate from Lindsey Wilson College for her years of service and leadership in education. Ruby was a faithful member of Beulah Chapel Brethren in Christ Church and was involved in many church and civic activities. Her faith, commitment, dedication to her family, church and friends, serve as a testament to all that knew her.

Ruby McKinney Roach, 82, of Greer, SC, died Thursday, April 30, 2015 at Oakleaf Village in Greer, SC after a brief illness.

Funeral service will be Monday, May 4, 2015 at 11amCT at Beulah Chapel Brethren in Christ Church, 4262 Liberty Road, Columbia, KY. Burial will be in Haven Hill Cemetery, 1276 Liberty Road, Columbia, KY. Visitation on Sunday, May 3, 2015, after 4:30pmCT at Grissom-Martin Funeral Home, 200 Campbellsville Street, Columbia, KY, and after 9amCT, Monday at the church



Ruby Roach, Adair County, KY (1933-2015)

She was born in Adair County, Kentucky on January 6, 1933. She was the daughter of the late Nancy Lou and Eugene McKinney. She died Thursday, April 30, 2015, in Greer, SC, at the age of 82 years, three months, and 24 days.

In addition to her parents, Ruby was preceded in death by on brother, Paul McKinney and one sister, Stella Ballou.

Ruby was a graduate of Columbia High School ('52), Lindsey Wilson College (associate's degree '54), Berea College (bachelor's degree '56) and Western Kentucky University, where she received her master's degree and Rank One Certification.

Ruby began her career in education in Barren County, Kentucky. After she married H.W. Roach on July 2, 1958, she transferred to the Adair County School System. The family wishes to thank Mrs. Roach's caregivers from Oakleaf Village and Hospice Care of South Carolina.

Survivors include:
  • Her husband: Herman Wood (H.W.) Roach of Greer, SC

  • Two sons: Hal (Katie) Roach of Greenville, SC; and Brent (Tamara) Roach of Statesville, NC

  • Two brothers: Donald McKinney and Harold McKinney both of Danville, KY

  • Two sisters: Doris Lane of Danville, KY and Juanita Scott of Columbia, KY

  • Five grandchildren: Katherine Roach, Cherylyn Groh, Michael Groh, John Roach, and Olivia Roach

  • Numerous nieces, nephews and special friends
