Marie Allen, Casey Co., KY (1932-2015)

She was the matriarch of a very large, respected family. She was born in Casey County and was a resident of the county at the time of her death. She was the daughter of the late W.C. "Buddy" Emerson and Myrtle Grooms Emerson and the widow of James Shirley Allen. She was a homemaker and a loving mother and grandmother. She leaves 77 direct living descendants.

Marie Allen of Liberty, Kentucky passed away Thursday, April 23, 2015 at the Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville, KY. She was 82.

Funeral services are 1pmCT/2pmCT, Saturday, April 25, 2015 at Grace Baptist Church with Bro. Johnny Davis and Pastor Steve Mullins officiating. Burial is in Whited Cemetery. Visitation is Friday from 3pm-9pmCT/4pm-9pmET, at McKinney-Brown Funeral Home, Saturday from 7am-10amCT/8am-11amET, at the funeral home, and Saturday 11am-1pmCT/12pm-2pmET, at Grace Baptist Church.

Born, Monday, December 26, 1932 in Casey County, KY, she was the daughter of the late W.C. "Buddy" Emerson and Myrtle Grooms Emerson. She died Thursday, April 23, 2015, in Danville, Boyle County, KY, at the age of 82 years, three months, and 28 days.

She was a homemaker and a loving mother, and grandmother.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her beloved husband, James Shirley Allen, who passed away July 28, 1982; a son, James "Jimmy" Roy Allen; two daughters, Judy Kay Mowrer and Velma May Allen; a granddaughter, Tonya Allen; 6 brothers, John, James T., Amos, Pete, Leslie and Everett Emerson; and sisters, Edith Wright, Beulah Farris, Ollie Allen, Alice Hayes, and Donnie Lee.

Survivors include the following:
  • Two sons: Johnny (and Katrina) Allen of Liberty, KY; and Mark (and Michelle) Allen of Tennessee

  • Nine daughters: Joan (and Delton) Coppage of Liberty, KY; Thelma (and Neal)Tucker of Knifley, KY; Katherine (and Junior) Brown of Liberty, KY; Donna (and William) Myers of Liberty, KY; Helen (and Freddie) Vonlinger of Lancaster, KY; Rebecca (and Stanley) Coffey of Russell Springs, KY; and Marilyn Earles of Moreland, KY

  • Daughter-in-law: Bernice Allen of Campbellsville, KY

  • Twenty-five grandchildren

  • Forty-one great-grandchildren

  • A sister: Mollie Vaughn of Liberty, KY
In lieu of flower, donation may be given to the funeral home to help offset funeral expenses.

Funeral arrangements entrusted to McKinney-Brown Funeral Home, 752 Campbellsville Street, Liberty, KY, in charge of arrangements.
