Joseph Wayne (Birdlegs) Derringer, Taylor Co., KY (1940-2014)

He was an Army veteran and a member of the Liberty First Baptist Church. "Birdlegs" was a devoted family man. He loved playing music and enjoyed riding motorcycles. He was a retired truck driver with 54 years of service. He is survived by eight direct living descendants

Joseph Wayne "Birdlegs" Derringer of Campbellsville, Taylor County, KY was born Saturday, August 31, 1940, in Casey County, KY. He was the son of the late Alvin and Ruby Marple Derringer. He passed away Monday, April 13, 2015 at the Hardin Memorial Hospital in Elizabethtown, Hardin County, KY at the age of 74 years, seven months, and 13 days.

Funeral services will be at 10amCT/11amET Wednesday, April 15, 2015 at McKinney-Brown Funeral Home, 752 Campbellsville Street, Liberty, KY, with Bro. Dwight Coffman officiating. Burial will follow in Whited Cemetery with military honors by Caswell-Saufley American Legion Post. Visitation is Tuesday, April 14, 2015, from 5pm-8pmCT/6pm-9pmET at the funeral home.



Survivors include the following:
  • Four sons: Joseph Alvin Derringer of Lexington, KY; Johnny Wayne Derringer of Campbellsville, KY; James Ray Campbell of Bunnell, Florida; and Marcus Wayne Derringer of Yulee, Florida

  • Four grandchildren
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four sisters, Linda Derringer, Marilyn June Godsey, Judy Gabehart, and Norma Jane Derringer.

In lieu of flowers, donation may be given to the Casey County Veterans Honor Guard c/o Glen Phillips, 2712 Dry Ridge Road, Liberty, KY 42539.

Funeral arrangements entrusted with McKinney-Brown Funeral Home, 752 Campbellsville Street, Liberty, KY.
