Elbert Burton, 90, Adair County, KY (1924-2015)

He was a distinguished Adair County business leader and farmer. He was member of one of the great families in Adair County history. He had a winning smile for everyone, a quick wit, and entertaining sense of humor. She was the son of Sydney and Mary Lee Burton, and the widower of Goldie Mae Bryant Burton and later Bobbie McLean Ellis Burton. He was a dedicated Christian and a member of Trinity United Methodist Church. He was an active member of the Adair Gideon Camp. He had a long string of business successes, as the owner at various times, of Burtons Auto Parts, Burton Brothers Station, Jeffries Hardware and Russell County Auto Parts and other enterprises. He was a World War II veteran serving his country in the U.S Army.

Elbert Burton, age 90 years of Columbia, KY passed away Wednesday April 1, 2015 at 10:38amCT, at Westlake Regional Hospital in Columbia, KY.

Funeral service will be Saturday, April 4, 2015 at 10amCT at Trinity United Methodist Church, 2418 Campbellsville Road, Columbia, KY. The clergy officiating will be Rev. Steve Pescosolido and Rev. William R. Davenport. Interment will be in Haven Hill Cemetery, 1276 Liberty Road, Columbia, KY, with full military honors presented by Columbia VFW Post 6097 Visitation after 4pmCT, Friday, April 3, 2015, at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home, 210 Greensburg Street, Columbia, KY, and Saturday, 6am-7:30pmCT at the funeral home and after 8amCT, at Trinity United Methodist Church until the service hour.



Elbert Burton, 90, Adair County, KY (1924-2015)


He was born on August 1, 1924 in Adair Columbia, KY. He was the son of the late Sidney & Mary Lee Burton. He died Wednesday, April 1, 2015, in Columbia, Adair County, KY, at the age of 90 years, nine months.

Preceded in death by his wife; Goldie Mae Bryant Burton on March 1, 2005 He later married Bobbie McLean Ellis Burton who also preceded him in death on September 23, 2009.

He was preceded in death by one daughter Thelma Jean Akin on July 19, 1991 and by one grandson Kenny Akin, on March 11, 2014, and by one great grandson Christopher Michael Akin, on November 26, 2000 and by eleven brothers and sisters.

He is survived by the following:
  • one son: Ron (Barbra) Burton of Columbia, KY

  • One son in law: Mike Akin of Columbia, KY

  • One sister; Sue Fisette of Edinburgh, IN

  • Two grandchildren: Nicholas Burton & Melissa (Freddie) Newby

  • Four great grandchildren Lorren Newby, Seth Newby, Shelby Akin & Brinly Burton

  • One step-grandchild Jan, wife of Jim Hadley
He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, a longtime businessman and the owner of Burtons Auto Parts, Burton Brothers Station, Jeffries Hardware and Russell County Auto Parts and a farmer.

He was a World War II veteran serving his country in the U.S Army & was an active member of the Adair Gideon Camp.

Expressions of sympathy are suggested to take the form of Gideon Bibles.
