Jerry Hammer, 78, Monroe Co. (1936-2015)

Jerry Hammer, age 78, of Tompkinsville, died March 26,2015, at the Monroe County Medical Center, Tompkinsville, Ky.

Viewing will start Saturday, March 28, at 3pmCT and after 8amCT on Sunday until time for the funeral. Funeral services will be Sunday, March 29, 2015 at 2pmCT at McMurtrey Funeral Home, 2232 Summer Shade Rd., Summer Shade, KY 42166, with burial to follow at the Hammer Cemetery.

Born August 10, 1936, in Tompkinsville, Jerry Hammer was the son of the late Richard Tennessee and Vessie Ford Hammer and was a veteran of the Army.
Survivors include:
  • One daughter, Jeanene (Mark) LaMaster of Palos Hills, Illinois.
  • One stepson, Steve (Stephanie) Wright of Greenfield, Indiana.
  • Three brothers: Travler Hammer of Tompkinsville, High (Marie) Hammer of Greenfield, Indiana and Charles Hammer.
He was preceded in death by a step daughter Teresa Wright, Two brothers, Calvin and Cass Hammer and two sisters, Tonnie Giddings and Vida Roth, and his former wife, Betty Hammer.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Hammer Cemetery or can be left at McMurtrey Funeral Home. Condolences may be left online at
