Rev. Gilbert L. Harmon, 87, Adair Co., KY (1928-2015) He was the leader of a large family which has contributed so much to Adair County. He was the son of the late John & Emma Streeval Harmon, and the widower of Bessie Estes Harmon. He leaves 42 direct living descendants. He was a member of Columbia Baptist Church, an ordained Baptist Minister, having pastored several churches in the area. He was a former member of the Columbia-Adair County Volunteer Fire Department, where he served as President for many years. He was a US Army veteran of the Korean Conflict, a life member of VFW Post 6097, a member of Columbia Lodge #96. He was employed by Grissom-Maupin-Heskamp Funeral Home for many years and served as Deputy Coroner under the late David Heskamp and Deputy Jailer under the late Lawrence Burton. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Bessie Estes Harmon on October 8, 2011; two grandchildren, three brothers and four sisters. He was a member of Columbia Baptist Church, an ordained Baptist Minister, having pastored several churches in the area. He was a former member of the Columbia-Adair County Volunteer Fire Department where he served as President for many years.
