Alta Mae Cook, 91, Adair Co., KY (1923-2015)

She was a member of Purdy Separate Baptist Church. She was the daughter of the late Lucian & Belle (Redmon) Burton, and the widow of James (Jim) Cook. She was the matriarch of a large, respected Northeast Adair County, KY family.

Funeral service will be Thursday February 19, 2015 at 11amCT, at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home, 210 Greensburg Street, Columbia, KY. Clergy officiating Rev. Junior Holmes & Bro. Richard Lehman Interment in Bearwallow Cemetery by Bearwallow United Methodist Church, 6132 Liberty Road, Columbia, KY. Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home in charge of funeral arrangements Visitation after 4:30pmCT, Wednesday, February 18, 2015.



Alta Mae Cook, 91, Adair Co., KY (1923-2015)


She was the daughter of the late Lucian & Belle (Redmon) Burton. She was born July 17, 1923. She died Monday, February 16, 2015, in Columbia, Adair County, KY, at the age of 91 years, six months, and 30 days.

She was a member of Purdy Separate Baptist Church.

Mrs. Cook was preceded in death by her husband James (Jim) Cook, Daughter Donna Sue Cook, six brothers Finis, Ernest, Forest, Jake, Kyle, and Leonard Burton and one sister Ruthie Knight.

She will be forever missed by her friends and survivors including:
  • Sons: Phillip (Linda), Tommy (Sherry), James Timothy, (Tammy), Ricky (Jill) Cook, Danny Joe (Cook) Cappiello.

  • Daughters: Mary Kay Scearce (Tommy), Connie McQueary (Dale) Shelia Shaughnessy (George) and Angelia Cook.

  • One brother: Gilbert Burton of Columbia, KY

  • Grandchildren and great grandchilden
