Letter: Russell Co. Smith Family Military Service Spans 100 Years

Jeff V Smith writes:
PVT. William S. Smith in G Company was my great-grandfather. He is buried at Old Pleasant Hill Cemetery, near Pleasant Hill Boat Dock on Lake Cumberland. His son was my grandfather Jefferson S. Smith, whose son was my father A. G. Smith.

That brings me to another thought, William S. Smith's great-grandson, my oldest brother, served in Vietnam. Avery G. Smith, of Russell Springs, was killed in Vietnam a little over 100 years later in June of 1966. For Avery's actions during that battle he received the Distinguished Service Cross. (For details google PVC Avery G. Smith.) --Jeff V Smith

Note: Thanks for writing. We searched as you mentioned, and landed on a great tool for Vietnam Veterans, The VVMF's Virtual Wall: http://www.vvmf.org/Wall-of-Faces/48059/AVERY-G-SMITH.
