Greensburg Fire Death Investigation - KSP has ruled out arson

No foul play suspected in death of 60 year old Jerry Smith

The Greensburg Fire Department is continuing its death and fire investigation in regard to the death of Jerry W. Smith, 60, in the fire Monday evening at 9:40pmCT, at Hillview Terrace, Hodgenville Avenue, Greensburg, KY, Greensburg Police Chief Wayne Hedgespeth said.

Smith's body was found in his burned apartment. Smith was a native of Adair County, KY.



A spokesperson at KY State Police Post 15 in Columbia, KY, said that arson has been ruled out, and that the continuing investigation will be handled by Greensburg Police and Coroner

Chief Hedgespeth said that no foul play is suspected.

Agencies which responded to the fire include the Greensburg Police Department, the Greensburg/Green County Fire and Rescue, Chief Lawrence Gupton; Kentucky State Police, Green County Coroner Carol Ray, Deputy State Fire Marshall and Green County EMS, and the Summersville Fire Department.
