Marjorie (Roonie) Myers Sparks, Burkesville, KY (1921-2014)

She was a native of Cumberland County and a resident at the time of her death. She was the daughter of the late John Thomas and Mae Easter Myers. She was the widow of Preston Sparks. She leaves 18 direct living descendants. She was a member of Lawson Bottom United Methodist Church and an Agriculture Surveyor for the U.S.D.A. for 35 years.

Mrs. Marjorie "Roonie" Myers Sparks, age 93, of Lawson Bottom Road in Burkesville, Kentucky, passed away on Sunday, November 2, 2014 at the Cumberland County Hospital in Burkesville, Kentucky.

Funeral Services will be conducted on Thursday, November 6, 2014 at 2pmCT, in the Memory Chapel of Norris-New Funeral Home, 601 N Main Street, Burkesville, KY, with burial in the Burkesville Cemetery, N Main Street, Burkesville, KY. The family will receive friends after 4pmCT, Wednesday, November 5, 2014 until the funeral hour on Thursday.

She was born in Cumberland County, Kentucky on Wednesday, October 26, 1921, the daughter of John Thomas and Mae Easter Myers. She died Sunday, November 2, 2014, at the Cumberland County Hospital, in Burkesville, KY, at the age of 93 years, seven days.

She was a member of Lawson Bottom United Methodist Church and an Agriculture Surveyor for the U.S.D.A. for 35 years.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Preston Sparks; her son, Gary Sparks; her great-granddaughter, Caroline Marjorie Sparks' her brothers, John Thomas Myers, Jr., Benny Hall Myers and Walter Harrison "Cranzy" Myers and her sisters, Mabel Gibson, Flora Mae Smith and Mildred Scott. She is survived by the following:
  • Her son and daughter-in-law: Preston W. and Rita Sparks of Albany, Kentucky

  • Her daughter and son-in-law: Julia Faye and Aaron Fletcher of Bowling Green, Kentucky

  • Her sisters and brother-in-law: Sue Baker of Burkesville, Kentucky and Ruth and Herbert Pierce of Burkesville, Kentucky

  • Her grandchildren: Jamie Sparks, Derrick Fletcher, Jeremy Fletcher, Shannon Fletcher, Amy Mann, Chris Sparks and Shannon Spears

  • Her great-grandchildren: Elizabeth Petty, Andrea Mann, Ty Sparks, Preston Fletcher, Tucker Fletcher, Lawson Fletcher, Jackson Fletcher, Reagan Fletcher, Braylee Mann and Kristian Sparks
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate contributions to the Burkesville Cemetery Fund, P. O. Box 246, Burkesville, KY 42717. Professional services provided by Norris-New Funeral Home 601 N Main Street, Burkesville, Kentucky.
