FRANKFORT, KY (31 Oct 2014) - Secretary of State Alison Lundergan Grimes today projected approximately 49 percent of the 3.1 million people registered to vote in Kentucky will turn out for the November 4, 2014, General Election.

"After reviewing absentee data provided by our county clerks and historical turnout in similar election cycles, I forecast that nearly half of registered Kentucky voters will cast ballots in Tuesday's General Election," Grimes said. "But as the Commonwealth's chief advocate for civic engagement, I am hopeful that as many as are registered will participate."

In 2010, a similar midterm cycle with one U.S. Senate race and county offices on the ballot in Kentucky, 49 percent of voters went to the polls. About 49.5 percent of the Kentucky electorate voted in the 2006 midterm cycle.

As of Octpber 27, 22,390 voters had voted absentee on machines in county clerks' offices and 21,598 absentee ballots had been mailed to voters.

Grimes encourages voters to prepare to vote on November 4, 2014, by checking their polling places and viewing sample ballots through the Voter Information Center. from Secretary of State Alison Lundergan Grimes office
