She was a homemaker and a member of Russell Springs First Baptist Church. She was a native of Russell County, KY and a resident at the time of her death. She was the daughter of the late Hershel & Sedalia Pearl Rexroat, and the widow of James Woodrow Flanagan. She leaves 20 direct living desendants.

Verlene Flanagan, 86, of Russell Springs, died Monday, October 27, 2014 at the Russell County Hospital, Russell Springs, KY.

Funeral service for Verlene Flanagan will be 11amCT, Friday, October 31, 2014 at the Bernard Funeral Home Chapel, 367 N Main Street, Russell Springs, KY, with Rev. Jeff Griffin & Rev. Tony Stephens officiating. Visitation will be after 5pmCT, Thursday, October 30, 2014, at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Russell Springs City Cemetery.

She was born Thursday, May 3, 1928 in Russell County, KY. She was the daughter of the late Hershel & Sedalia Pearl Bernard Rexroat. She died Monday, October 27, 2014, in Russell Springs, Russell County, KY, at the age of 86 years, five months, and 24 days.

She was a homemaker and a member of Russell Springs, First Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, James Woodrow Flanagan; a sister, Vivian Gasaway; and a brother, Ralph Rexroat. Survivors include the following:
  • Four children: Lydia Sue (Larry) Kinnett; Jimmy (Lou Ann) Flanagan; Kim (Don) Byrom; and Shanna (Trent) Tarter, all of Russell Springs, KY

  • Eight grandchildren

  • Eight great grandchildren

  • One sister: Jean Hill, Russell Springs, KY

  • Two brothers: H. F. Rexroat, Russell Springs, KY; and Ronnie Rexroat, Russell Springs, KY
