She was a retired educator, and a member of a highly regarded Russell County, KY, family. She was the daughter of the late Henry Wise and Hattie Mary (Antle) Smith of Font Hill, Russell County, KY. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Conner, and three brothers, Ernest, Bascum, and Hugh Smith.

Mary Ella Smith Conner, 81, W Oak Street, Louisville, KY, died Thursday, August 14, 2014, in Louisville, KY.

Funeral services will be at Friendship Baptist Church, Russell Springs, KY, at 2pmCT, on Monday, August 18, 2014, with Bro. Gil Hammond and Bro. Jeff Kerr officiating. Visitation will be after 11amCT, Monday, August 18, 2014, at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Smith Memorial Cemetery, Russell Springs, KY.

She was born March 22, 1933, in Russell Springs, Russell County, KY. She was the daughter of the late Henry Wise Smith and the late Hattie Mary (Antle) Smith. She died Thursday, August 14, 2014, in Louisville, Jefferson County, KY, at the age of 81 years, four months, and 23 days.

She was a retired educator.

She is survived by the following:
  • Her step daught: Melissa C. Arnold, Danville, KY

  • Two step grandchildren

  • A host of nieces and nephews
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Jack Conner, and three brothers, Ernest, Bascum, and Hugh Smith.

The H.E. Pruitt Memory Chapel, 202 N Main Street, Jamestown, KY, in charge of arrangements.
