Mr. Atchley was a member of White Oak Church, a farmer He was a Veteran of WW II, serving his country in the U.S. Navy. He was a member of a highly regarded East Adair County, KY, family, the son of the late John Tyler & Nettie Jewell Grider Atchley. His wife, Bessie Conover Atchley, survives.

O B Atchley age 87 years of Columbia, KY passed away Wednesday July 30, 2014 at 2:35pmET, at Hosparus Inpatient Care Center in Louisville, KY.

Funeral service will be Saturday, August 2, 2014 a 10amCT, at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home, 210 Greensburg Street, Columbia, KY, with Rev. Richie Curtis the officiating clergy. Interment will be in Freedom Cemetery, in East Adair County at 576 Freedom Church Road, Russell Springs, KY. Visitation will be after 4:30pmCT, Friday, August 1, 2014 at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home.



Pallbearers: Ronnie Bryant, Kendell Hoover, Wendell Hoover, Herbert Veatch, Terry Dudley, and Larry Dudley.

He was born on Thursday, August 12, 1926 in Adair County, KY. He was the son of the late John Tyler & Nettie Jewell Grider Atchley. He died Wednesday July 30, 2014 at in Louisville, Jefferson County, KY, at the age of 87 years, 11 months, and 18 days.

He is survived by his wife Bessie Conover Atchley of Columbia, KY, and the following:
  • Two brothers: Claud Atchley of Burkesville, KY; and Eugene Atchley of Columbia, KY

  • Four sisters: Dolene Hoover of Russell Springs, KY, Emma Sullivan of Russell Springs, KY, Brenda Veatch of Campbellsville, KY; and Shirley Reliford of Columbia, KY

  • Several nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends
Mr. Atchley was a member of White Oak Church, a farmer & a Veteran of WW II serving his country in the U.S. Navy.
