Mr. Norman Gene (Sonny) McAllister, Taylor Co., KY (1935-2014)

He was a native of West Virginia and a resident of Campbellsville, KY at the time of his death. His wife, Mrs. Janet Wolfe McAllister, survives. He leaves 28 direct living descendants. As a young man, Mr. McAllister answered the call to duty and served his country honorably in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. He was a civil servant of the highest example, proven by his three retirements from federal, state, and city municipalities. Mr. McAllister was a Mason and an intellect. He loved playing chess, cards, and pool. He held bowling trophies, and was rarely seen without a quality book close at hand. Above all that, though, he cherished his family most.

Mr. Norman Gene "Sonny" McAllister of Campbellsville passed away at his home on Sunday, June 8, 2014. He was 78 years of age.

There will be a funeral service for Mr. Norman Gene "Sonny" McAllister on Thursday, June 12, 2014, at the L.R. Petty Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 1765 New Columbia Road, Campbellsville, KY 42718, at 10:30amCT/11:30amET The family will receive visitors at the funeral home on Thursday, June 12, from 10:30amCT/11:30amET until time for the service.



Mr. Norman Gene (Sonny) McAllister, Taylor Co., KY (1935-2014)


Mr. McAllister was born on June 19, 1935 in West Virginia. He was the son of the late Harold and Mable (Townsend) McAllister. He died Sunday, June 8, 2014, in Campbellsville, Taylor County, KY, at the age of 78 years, 11 months, and 20 days.

As a young man, Mr. McAllister answered the call to duty and served his country honorably in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. He was a civil servant of the highest example, proven by his three retirements from federal, state, and city municipalities. Mr. McAllister was a Mason and an intellect. He loved playing chess, cards, and pool. He held bowling trophies, and was rarely seen without a quality book close at hand. Above all that, though, he cherished his family most.

Mr. McAllister leaves to mourn his passing:
  • His sweetheart and wife: Mrs. Janet (Wolfe) McAllister of Campbellsville, KY

  • Four children: Brenda-Kay Buck and husband Danny of Campbellsville, Christina Waczovszky and husband Joseph of Canal Winchester, Ohio, Kevin Gene McAllister and wife Lori of Medina, Ohio, and Karen Jean Stitt and husband Greg of Canal Winchester, Ohio

  • Two sisters: Mary "Sissy" Williams and Linda Esparza, both of Virginia

  • One brother: Albert McAllister of Virginia

  • Twelve grandchildren

  • Twelve great-grandchildren
  • And a host of extended family and friends. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by three siblings: Harry Lee McAllister, Juanita "Nita" Newman, and Norma "Sunshine" McAllister.

    In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials take the form of donations to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or the American Diabetes Association, and can be made at the funeral home.
