TheatreFest! 2014: 'Red, White, & Tuna' & 'Sound of Music' Robert Brock and Randy Burns will perform all parts, for 30 characters, in 'Red, White, and Tuna' Click on headline for complete article By Duane Bonifer News from Lindsey Wilson College COLUMBIA, KY - Area residents can visit the third smallest town in Texas and the Austrian Alps this summer at Lindsey Wilson College. TheatreFest! 2014 will present the comedy Red, White and Tuna and the Rodgers and Hammerstein classic The Sound of Music. Red, White and Tuna will be performed at 7pmCT, Friday-Saturday, June 20-21 and Thursday-Friday-Saturday, June 26-28, 2014, The Sound of Music will be performed at 7pmCT, Friday-Saturday, July 11-12 and Thursday-Friday-Saturday, July 17-19, 2014, at V.P. Henry Auditorium, 210 Lindsey Wilson Street, Columbia, KY. Red, White and Tuna is the third installment in a series of comedic plays by Ed Howard, Joe Sears and Jaston Williams. Set in Tuna, Texas, the so-called third-smallest town in the state, Red, White and Tuna centers around the town's high school reunion during a Fourth of July celebration. "They are absolutely hilarious plays," said LWC Assistant Professor of Theatre Robert Brock, who is TheatreFest! artistic director. "Every time I have produced one of these plays, they've been very well-received by the audience." Red, White and Tuna features more than 20 characters, all of whom are played by two male actors, who in the TheatreFest! production will be Brock and LWC Director of Alumni Relations Randy Burns. "This is Southern comedy at its absolute best. If you like blue-collar comedy, you will love this," Burns said. Brock said the Tuna plays are popular because they respect the South while also finding humor in its everyday life. "People like the Tuna stories so much because they do not make fun of the South or the people of the South, rather they appreciate them," he said. "But the plays also appreciate what's quirky about the South and Southerners -- what's funny and eccentric. We look at these plays and say, 'These are people in my family.' Some of them might be me actually." First time Brock has directed The Sound of Music This will be the first time Brock, who is a 30-year theater veteran, has directed The Sound of Music. The final collaboration between Broadway legends Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II, The Sound of Music is an adaptation of Maria von Trapp's memoirs, The Story of the Trapp Family Singers. Since it debuted on Broadway in 1959, The Sound of Music has been among the more popular and most frequently produced American musicals. "The story is wonderful, the music is wonderful and so is the dialogue," Brock said. "And we have an wonderful cast to present this American classic for the first time in Southcentral Kentucky." TheatreFest! 2014 will present Red, White and Tuna June 20-21 and June 26-28 and The Sound of Music July 11-12 and July 17-19. All performances will be at 7pmCT at V.P.
