Dawson Fisher is home after nearly 4 months "If it weren't for this hospital Dawson wouldn't have made it." - JOYCE LOY, Dawson's grandmother Dawson Fisher's family makes first stop at Westlake Regional Hospital to say 'thank you' to emergency personnel. By Linda Waggener Dawson Fisher's long journey home to Columbia after nearly four months in Shriner's Children's Hospital in Cincinnati was marked by a first stop at Westlake Regional Hospital where his grandmother Joyce Loy said, "If it weren't for this hospital Dawson wouldn't have made it." The stop at Westlake was for a thank-you message from Dawson's family to all the emergency personnel who responded and saved him after a December 28 garage fire at 408 Sandusky Street nearly took his life. The hospital cafeteria was filled with family and friends on hand to say thank-you. Dawson's mother Tina, his grandmothers Joyce Loy and Donna Ford, his grandfather Jerry Ford, his little sister Hailey, 4, and others stayed close around him to make sure he was alright with the crowd of folks there to welcome him and celebrate his life. Hospital administrator Neal Gold said, "We are truly humbled by his family's request to make this a first stop on his trip home." He said this case points out the vital importance of having a local emergency center - while 18 miles may not sound like a long distance, in this case it made the difference between life and death. Dawson's journey has just begun. He will have rehab in Somerset during the months ahead. This story was posted on 2014-04-22 06:14:44
