Mr. Judge Walter Thurman, Cumberland Co., KY (1923-2014)

He was a native of Cumberland County, KY, and a resident of Allen County, KY, at the time of his death. He was the son of the late Herriford and Minnie Allen Thurman. He was he widower of Lena Ozell Taylor Thurman. He leave 6 direct living descendants spanning 3 generations. He was a member of the Dutch Creek United Methodist Church, a U.S. Army Veteran of WWII and an equipment operator for the Kentucky Department of Transportation.

Mr. Judge Walter Thurman, age 90, of Bowling Green, Kentucky, formerly of the Dutch Creek Community in Cumberland County, Kentucky, passed away on Wednesday, April 9, 2014 at the Medical Center in Scottsville.

Funeral Services will be conducted on Sunday, April 13, 2014 at 1pmCT in the Memory Chapel of Norris-New Funeral Home, 601 N Main Street, Burkesville, KY, with Bro. Lannie Garner officiating. Burial will be in the Dutch Creek Cemetery in Cumberland County, Kentucky. The family will receive friends after 11amCT, on Saturday, April 12, 2014 until the funeral hour on Sunday.



Mr. Judge Walter Thurman, Cumberland Co., KY (1923-2014)

He was born in Cumberland County, Kentucky on Thursday, April 12, 1923, the son of Herriford and Minnie Allen Thurman. He died Wednesday, April 9, 2014, in Scottsville, Allen County, KY, at the age of 90 years, 11 months, and 27 days.

He was a member of the Dutch Creek United Methodist Church, a U.S. Army Veteran of WWII and an equipment operator for the Kentucky Department of Transportation.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Lena Ozell Taylor Thurman; his daughter, Patty K. Thurman; his brothers, Kenneth Thurman and David Thurman; and his sisters, Louise Garner and Lenolia Cary.

He is survived by the following:
  • His son, Jackie Dale Thurman and his fiancee', Faye Jenkins of Scottsville, Kentucky

  • His daughter and son-in-law, Judy and Wayne Cary of Alvaton, Kentucky

  • His brothers: Leslie Thurman of Shepherdsville, Kentucky; and Tommy Thurman of Burkesville, Kentucky

  • His sister: Martha Garrett of Burkesville, Kentucky

  • His grandchildren: Jermey Dale Thurman and Kelly (and Glenn) Cary Shirley

  • And his great-granddaughter: Brooke DeLana Shirley
