Charles Ernest Mitchum, Glensfork, KY (1928-2014)

He was a member of a large, highly regarded South Adair County, KY, family. He was the son of the late Ernest Odus and Elva Mae Wheat Mitchum. His wife, Glenna Mae "Sandy" Wright Mitchum, survives. He leaves 11 direct and four step living descendants. Mr. Mitchum was a US Air Force veteran of the Korean Conflict, a former building contractor and truck driver and was a member of the Fairview Separate Baptist Church.

Charles Ernest "Mitch" Mitchum, 85 of the Glensfork Community of Adair County passed away Friday, February 7, 2014 at The Palace Nursing Home in Red Boiling Springs, TN after several months illness.

Funeral services will be Monday, February 10, 2014 at 1pmCT, at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home, 210 Greensburg Street, Columbia, KY with Rev. Gerald Reliford the officiating clergy. Interment in the McClister Cemetery, 4138 Fairplay Road, Columbia, KY, with full military honors provided by VFW Post 6097. The family request visitation after 4pmCT on Sunday, February 9, 2014, at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home.



Charles Ernest (Mitch) Mitchum, Glensfork, KY (1928-2014)


He was born Friday, June 15, 1928 in Glensfork, Adair County, KY. He was the son of the late: Ernest Odus and Elva Mae Wheat Mitchum. He died Friday, February 7, 2014, in Red Boiling Springs, Macon County, Tennessee, at the agge of 85 years, 7 months, and 22 days.

He was preceded in death by brothers, William "Bill" Mitchum, Carmen Mitchum, Donald Joe Mitchum and a stillborn infant sister, Teresa Gail Mitchum.

He is survived by his wife: Glenna Mae (Sandy) Wright Mitchum of Glensfork, KY, and the following:
  • One son: Mike Mitchum and wife, Amy of Columbia, KY

  • One daughter: Tanna Vance and husband, Barry of Austin, KY

  • Six grandchildren: Michael, husband of Tiffany Mitchum; Mary, wife of Levi Burton; Megan Davidson, Ben Fillmore, Grace Fillmore, Kyle Fillmore

  • Three great grandchildren

  • Four step great grandchildren

  • Two sisters: Imogene Brown of Paducah, KY and Joyce Spurlock of Louisville, KY

  • Several nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends
Expressions of sympathy are asked to take the form of a donation to the Alzheimer's Association 6100 Dutchmans Lane Suite 401 Louisville, KY 40205-3284.
