Mary Helen Goodin, Adair County, KY (1926-2014)

She was a native of Gradyville, Adair County, KY, and a resident of the Millerfield, Adair County community at the time of her death. She was a member of a highly regarded Adair County family, the daughter of the late Cassius & Ginnie Lou Jessie Coomer. She was the widow of Joseph C. Goodin, Jr. She leaves 27 direct living descendants, spanning 4 generations. Mrs. Goodin was a member of New Hope Separate Baptist Church, had worked at Union Underwear in Campbellsville, KY and worked at Country Inn Resturant on Jamestown Street in Columbia, KY

Mary Helen Goodin age 87 years of the Millerfield Community of Adair County passed away Wednesday February 5, 2014 at 5:01 P.M. at her home after an illness.

Funeral services will be Saturday February 8, 2014 at 1pmCT/2pmET, at New Hope Separate Baptist Church, 10706 Liberty Road, Columbia, KY, with Bro. David Coffey the officiating clergy. Interment will be in New Hope Cemetery, 131 New Hope Cemetery Road, Columbia, KY. Visitation after 4pmCT, Friday, February 7, and after 6amCT Saturday until 9:30amCT, at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home, 210 Greensburg Street, Columbia, KY, and after 10amCT at the church.



Mary Helen Goodin, Adair County, KY (1926-2014)

She was born on Wednesday, September 1, 1926 in Gradyville, KY. She was daughter of the late Cassius & Ginnie Lou Jessie Coomer. She died Wednesday, February 5, 2014, in the Millerfield Community of Adair County, KY, at the age of 87 years, 5 months and 4 days.

She was preceded in death by her husband Joseph C. Goodin Jr. on April 13, 1998 also preceded in death by a daughter Peggy Brockman in October 5, 2011; three brothers and two sisters, Lawrence Coomer, Lucian Coomer, Thurman Coomer, Christine Sexton and Kathryn Hitch.

She is survived by the following:
  • One daughter: Judith Sinclair of Columbia, KY

  • One son: Gary (Jeanette) Goodin of Campbellsville, KY

  • Son-in-law: Danny Brockman of Columbia, KY

  • One brother: Azro Coomer of Columbia, KY

  • Seven grandchildren

  • Fifteen great grandchildren

  • Three great great grandchildren

  • Several nieces, nephews

  • And a host of other relatives and friends
Mrs. Goodin was a member of New Hope Separate Baptist Church, had worked at Union Underwear in Campbellsville, KY and worked at Country Inn Resturant on Jamestown Street in Columbia, KY.
