Talana Jessie, Metcalfe Co., KY (d. Jan. 17, 2014)

She was a member of a large, highly regarded family with deep roots in Adair, Metcalfe and Green Counties of South Central Kentucky. She was the daughter of Glen Dale and Ramona Akin of Fairplay, Adair County, KY. She leaves 7 direct living descendants. She is well known for her musical talents. She was a gifted singer who performed often at Columbia's Dream Depot, where audiences favored the spirtual songs she wrote herself, including "Bought with a Price."

Talana Verlaine Jessie, age 52, of Edmonton, KY, died Friday, January 17, 2014 at UK Medical Center in Lexington, KY.

Funeral services will be held 1pmCT, Tuesday, January 21, 2014, at Butler Funeral Home, 201 East Street, Edmonton, KY, with her pastor, Bro. Randy Parnell, the officiating clergy and special music by Shaun Samuel. Burial in the Chestnut Grove Cemetery, 57 Chestnut Grove Road, Breeding, KY. Visitation will be 3pm-8pmCT, Monday and after 9amCT, Tuesday at the funeral home.



She was the daughter of Glen Dale and Ramona Akin of Fairplay, Kentucky.

She is also survived by her husband Danny Jessie of Edmonton, KY, and the following:
  • Two children: Louis Dale York of Glasgow, KY; and Stephanie Brewer of Edmonton, KY

  • One brother: Thomas Dale Akin of Greensburg, KY

  • One sister: Tamara Akin of Fairplay, KY

  • Five grandchildren: Emma Louise York, Dani Renee York, Molly Ann York, Samuel Dennison Brewer and Zachary Michael Brewer

  • Her mother in law: Loretta Jessie of Edmonton, KY
