Elizabeth Holmes Burton, Adair Co., KY (1925-2014)

She was a member of a large, highly regarded Adair County Family. She was a native of Champaign County, IL and a resident of Adair County at the time of her death. She was the daughter of the late Leslie & Clarice Goodin Holmes. She attended the Bearwallow United Methodist Church, was a seamstress and a homemaker.

Elizabeth Holmes Burton, age 89 years, of Columbia, KY, passed away Thursday, January 16, 2014 at 9:23pmCT, at Westlake Regional Hospital Emergency Room.

Funeral service will be Sunday, January 19, 2014 at 1pmCT, at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home, 210 Greensburg Street, Columbia, KY with Rev. William R. Davenport & Pastor Glen LaFond officiating. Interment in Haven Hill Cemetery, 1276 Liberty Road, Columbia, KY. Visitation will be after 6pmCT, Saturday, January 18, 2014.

She was born on Sunday, January 4, 1925 in Rantoul, Champaign County, Illinois. She was the daughter of the late Leslie G. & Clarice Goodin Holmes. She died Thursday, January 16, 2014, at the age of 89 years, 12 days.

She was preceded in death by two brothers Tom Edd Holmes, Sr., and Russell Holmes

She is survived by the following:
  • two daughters: Betty Burton of Columbia, KY and Jean (Olindo) Marseglia of Trinity, FL

  • One son: Bobby Burton of Columbia, KY

  • One brother: Sam Bingham Holmes of Columbia, KY

  • Four grandchildren: Ollie Marseglia and Jonathan Marseglia, Wesley Burton, and Zachary Burton

  • Two great grandchildren: Audra Burton and Hallie Burton

  • Nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends survive
She attended the Bearwallow United Methodist Church, was a seamstress and a homemaker.

Stotts-Phelp-MQueary Funeral Home, 210 Greensburg Street, Columbia, KY in charge of funeral arrangements.
