Mickey Alan Collins, Summer Shade, KY (1954-2014)

He was a native of Perry County, KY, and a resident of Summer Shade, KY, at the time of his death. He enjoyed camping, fishing and was an avid racing fan. He cherished his wife, adored his grandchildren and loved his family. He spent his days helping others at L & S Supply. His day was complete taking care of his faithful companion, Ginger. He was a veteran of the Army and of the Baptist faith. His wife, Bonnie Shockley, survives. He leaves 12 direct and three step living descendants.

Mickey Alan Collins, age 59, of Summer Shade, KY, died December 31, 2013, at the University of Louisville Hospital.

Funeral services will be Friday, January 3, 2014, at 2pmCT, at the Summer Shade Baptist Church, Summer Shade, KY, with Bro. Chad Harston and Bro, Joe Shockley officiating. Burial will follow in the Summer Shade Cemetery. Visitation begab Thursday, January 2 at 3pmCT,. at the McMurtrey Funeral Home, 2232 Summer Shade Road, Summer Shade, KY, and after 10amCT Friday, January 3, 2014 at the church.

He was born March 16, 1954 in Hazard, Perry County, KY, the son of the late Bobby Gene and Dana Fields Collins of Indianapolis, IN, who survives. He died Tuesday, December 31, 2013, in Louisville, Jefferson County, KY, at the age of 59 years, 9 months, and 15 days.

He married Bonnie Shockley Westmoreland April 8, 2005.

He enjoyed camping, fishing and was an avid racing fan. He cherished his wife, adored his grandchildren and loved his family. He spent his days helping others at L & S Supply. His day was complete taking care of his faithful companion, Ginger. He was a veteran of the Army and of the Baptist faith.

He is also survived by:
  • Two daughters; Christina (Chris) Zakes and Dana (Ben) Messex, both of Missouri

  • Two stepdaughters: Melissa (Mike) Fulcher of Smiths Grove, KY; and Monica (Michael) Greer of Center, KY

  • One stepson: Willie Dale (Rhonda) Westmoreland of Summer Shade, KY

  • Two sisters; Pam (Gene) Algood and Penny (Wayne) Cummins of Indiana.

  • Ten grandchildren

  • Several nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to his father he was preceded in death his grandparents Sam and Rachel Fields and Curt and Essie Collins.
