William (Bill) Douglas Gumm, Green Co., KY (1929-2014)

He was a native of Green County, KY, and a resident at the time of his death. He was the son of the late Joseph Mottley Gumm and Vara Chaudoin Gumm. His wife of 62 years, Mrs. Martha Lavern Walker Gumm, survives. He leaves 14 direct living descendants. He had made a profession of faith in Christ. He was a retired master printer for Publishers Printing Company in Shepherdsville, Kentucky, a member of the Rod Lowe Post 124, and loved WKU Hilltoppers and the Cincinnati Reds.

Mr. William D. "Bill" Gumm, age 84, of Greensburg, KY passed away on Friday at the Hardin Memorial Hospital in Elizabethtown, KY.

The funeral service will be held at 12pmCT/1pmET, Tuesday, December 31, 2013, at the Cowherd & Parrott Funeral Home, 206 S Main Street, Greensburg, KY. Burial will be in the Gumm Cemetery in Green County, KY. Visitation is requested 4pm-8pmCT/5pm-9pmET, Monday, December 30, 2013, at the funeral home.


Pallbearers: Andy Gumm, Nathan McCullough, Ian McCullough, Nash Gumm, Joey Caven, and Alex Colvin.

Honorary pallbearers: Publishers Printing Company Employees.


William (Bill) Douglas Gumm, Green Co., KY (1929-2014)


He was born January 10, 1929, in Green County, KY. He was the son of the late Joseph Mottley Gumm and Vara Chaudoin Gumm. He died December 27, 2013, in Elizabethtown, Hardin County, KY, at the age of 84 years, 11 months, and 17 days.

He had made a profession of faith in Christ. He was a retired master printer for Publishers Printing Company in Shepherdsville, Kentucky, a member of the Rod Lowe Post 124, and loved WKU Hilltoppers and the Cincinnati Reds. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Martha Laverne Walker Gumm of Greensburg, KY, having united in marriage on August 5, 1951. and the following:
  • Two daughters and a son-in-law: Debbie & Morgan McCullough of Greensburg, KY, and Tammy Gumm of Sheperdsville, KY

  • A son & daughter-in-law: Billy Joe & Sheila Gumm of Greensburg, KY

  • One brother & sister-in-law: Larry "Pee Wee" & Jane Gumm of Greensburg, KY

  • Six grandchildren: Neely Gumm of Greensburg, KY; Joey Caven of Greensburg, KY; Andy Gumm of Campbellsville, KY; Nathan McCullough and Ian McCullough, both of Greensburg, KY; and Nash Gumm of Bowling Green, KY

  • Five great-grandchildren: McKynzee Gumm of Campbellsville, KY; Ezzy Caven, Antigonee Caven, Grace McCullough, and Elliot Caven, all of Greensburg, KY

  • One brother and sister-in-law: Larry "Pee Wee" and Jane Gumm of Greensburg; and a host of relatives and friends.

Besides his parents, Mr. Gumm was preceded in death by six sisters: Zola McCubbins, Martha Overfelt, Lillian Skaggs, Louise Simmons, Dorothy Chaudoin and Dena Hickerson; five brothers: George Gumm, Joe Mott Gumm, Paul Gumm, Harry Gumm and Charley Gumm.
