Election 2014: Sec'y of State reminds of looming deadlines More than 400 candidates have filed for office ahead of January 28, 2014, deadlines. Ms. Alison Lundergan Grimes suggests early filing in case filing papers need to be corrected; reminds voters that December 31, 2013 is last date to change registration in order to vote in particular party primary By Bradford Queen, Deputy Director of Communications Secretary of State Alison Lundergan Grimes Secretary of State Alison Lundergan Grimes announced today that more than 400 candidates have already filed with her office to run in the 2014 elections. Candidates who wish to be placed on the ballot for the May 20, 2014 Primary Election must file their candidacy papers by 4pmCT local time at the place of filing on Tuesday, January 28, 2014. Candidates for the following public offices on the ballot next year must file with the Secretary of State's office:
Candidates for county and city offices file with the county clerk in the county in which they reside. All county officers and city legislative body members and several mayors will be on the ballot next year. Grimes also reminds prospective candidates who wish to attain ballot access in the 2014 regular elections that their party affiliation generally must be established no later than December 31, 2013.
