Elizabeth Alexander, Adair Co., KY (1925-2013)

She was a native of Adair County and a resident of the county at the time of her death. She was the matriarch of a highly regarded Adair County family, the daughter of the late Jessee P & Sinda Jane Burton Powell and the widow of Walter Alexander. With her death, the last of a generation of 10 siblings has passed. She leaves 28 direct and one step living descendants. She was a member of Beulah Chapel Brethren In Christ Church and was retired after a career working as a cook at Summit Manor Nursing Home, Columbia, KY

Elizabeth Alexander age 88 of Columbia, KY passed away Thursday, December 12, 2013 at 6:47pmCT, at her home.

Funeral services will be Sunday, December 15, 2013 at 2pmCT/3pmET, at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home, 210 Greensburg Street, Columbia, KY, with Bro. Jim Collison, Jr., the officiating clergy. Interment in Haven Hill Cemetery, 1276 Liberty Road, Columbia, KY. Visitation will be after 4pmCT/5pmET, Saturday, December 14, 2013, at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home.



Pallbearers: Chris and Tim Delk, John, James and Joe Edmonds and Brian Alexander.

She was born on Monday, March 16, 1925 in Adair County, KY She was the daughter of late Jessee P. & Sinda Jane Burton Powell and the widow of Walter "Gander" Alexander who preceded her in death on November 20, 1999.

She is survived by the following:
  • Four daughters: Linda (Jimmy) Turner of Columbia, KY; Judy Keith of Campbellsville, KY; Becky (Ken) Witham of Campbellsville, KY; and Sandy Edmonds of Russell Springs, KY

  • One son: Junior Alexander of Columbia, KY

  • Ten grandchildren: Cindy Turner, Jamie Patterson, Marty Anderson, Mellany Foster, Chris Delk, Tim Delk, John, James and Joe Edmonds, and Brian Alexander and was preceded in death by a granddaughter Amy Elizabeth Delk

  • One step-grandson: Alan Witham

  • Thirteen great grandchildren

  • Several nieces and nephews

  • a host of other relatives and friends
She was preceded in death by the following brothers and sisters: Woodruff Powell, Willie Powell, Joe Powell, Edd Powell, Nellie Bailey, Lena McQueary, Ruth Bryant, Fannie Corbin and Kathleen Miller.

She was a member of Beulah Chapel Brethren In Christ Church and was a retired cook working at Summit Manor Nursing Home, Columbia, KY.
