Mary Magdalene Jessie, Adair Co., KY (1917-2013)

She was a native of Adair County, KY, and a resident of Noble County, IN, at the time of her death. She was the daughter of the late Josh & Alma Coomer Wilson and the widow of Roach B. Ressie. She leaves 47 direct living descendants. She was saved at the age of 16 and never lost her faith, known to read her Bible until the wee hours of the morning. She was a charter member of Hickory Hills, IL, Church of the Nazarene and at the time of her death she was a member of Columbia First Church of the Nazarene. She was retired from Unilever Corporation.

Mary Magdalene Jessie, 96, formerly of Columbia, died Sunday, November 3, 2013 in the Lutheran Life Village in Kendallville, Indiana.

Funeral services will be Friday, November 8, 2013 at 11amCT/12noonET, at Grissom-Martin Funeral Home, 200 Campbellsville Street, Columbia, KY, with Rev. Jerry Cline officiating. Burial in Haven Hill Cemetery, 1276 Liberty Road, Columbia, KY. Visitation after 4pmCT/5pmET, Thursday, November 7, 2013.



Casket Bearers: Mike Jessie, Allen Trotter, Bobby Baker, Alex McLean, Jason Pierce, and Wayne Baker.

She was born Friday, October 5, 1917, in Adair County, KY. She was the daughter of the late Josh & Alma Coomer Wilson. She died Sunday, November 3, 2013 in the Lutheran Life Village in Kendallville, Noble County, IN, at the age of 96 years, 29 days.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by husband, Roach B. Jessie; a son, Carl Jessie; and a grandson, Jimmie Baker.

She was saved at the age of 16 and never lost her faith, known to read her Bible until the wee hours of the morning. She was a charter member of Hickory Hills, IL, Church of the Nazarene and at the time of her death she was a member of Columbia First Church of the Nazarene. She was retired from Unilever Corporation.

Survivors include:
  • One son: Glenn Jessie of Kendallville, IN

  • Two daughters: Elsie Baker & Betsy Trotter both of Columbia, KY

  • Eleven grandchildren: Mike (Frieda) Jessie, Sherry (Neil) Wright, Bobby Baker, Wayne (Amy) Baker, Larry Baker, Dean (John) Carver, Allen (Samantha) Trotter, Leigh (Steve) White, Steve (Helena) Hoover, Kimberly (Eddie) Rangel

  • Seventeen great-grandchildren

  • Six great-great grandchildren,

  • Several nieces, nephews and other relatives
