Helen Curry, Adair County, KY (1934-2013)

She was a member of Bearwallow United Methodist Church and owned and operated Curry's Grocery in the Vester community for over 40 years with her late husband Ralph Gilbert Curry. She was a member of a large and highly regarded Adair County, KY, family. She was a native of Adair County, KY. and a resident at the time of her death. She was the daughter of the late James Eli & Cecil McQueary Burton. She leaves 8 direct living descendants.

Helen Curry age 79 years a resident of Summit Manor Health & Rehab Center formerly of the Vester Community Columbia, Ky. passed away Monday, September 23, 2013 at 9:32 AM at Summit Manor Health & Rehab Center, Columbia, KY.

Funeral services will be Thursday, September 26, 2013 at 11amCT/12pmET, at Bearwallow United Methodist Church, 6132 Liberty Road, Columbia, KY, with Bro. Troy Long & Bro. Glenn LaFond the officiating clergy. Burial will be in the Bearwallow Cemetery beside the church. Visitation after 3:30pmCT/4:30pmET Wednesday, September 25, 2013, at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home, 210 Greensburg Street, Columbia, KY.


Pallbearers: Dwain Caton, Jimmy Caton, David Thomas, Johnny Thomas, Kelly Burton, Jr., Israel Burton and Noah Thomas.

She was born on Monday, March 5, 1934 in Adair County, KY. She was the daughter of the late James Eli & Cecil McQueary Burton. She died Monday, September 23, 2013, in Columbia, Adair County, KY, at the age of 79 years 6 months, and 18 days.

She the widow of Ralph Gilbert Curry, her husband of 59 years, who preceded her in death on July 19, 2010 She was also preceded in death by two sisters Diane Marple & Jean Gray.

She is survived by the following:
  • One daughter: Mary Curry of Columbia, KY

  • One son: Mark (Peggy) Curry of Bowling Green, KY

  • Three sisters: Kay (Ray) Thomas of Columbia, KY: Marie (Marshall) Curry of Louisville, KY; and Tricia Holt of Louisville, KY

  • One brother: Kelly (Debbie) Burton of Russell Springs, KY

  • Five grandchildren: Christa, Kimberly, Drew Allie and Erin

  • Several nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends
She was a member of Bearwallow United Methodist Church and owned and operated Curry's Grocery in the Vester community for over 40 years with her late husband Ralph Gilbert Curry.
