He was a native of Adair County, KY, and a resident of Campbellsville, KY at the time of his death. He was a member of highly regarded family. He leaves 35 direct living descendants. He professed faith in Christ and attended Jesus Name Church. He was a veteran of World War II and served his country honorably in the United States Army. He was a retired employee of Fruit of the Loom in Campbellsville, KY.

Rev. Samuel Carl Holmes, 86, of Campbellsville, KY, died at 11pmET, Friday, September 13, 2013 in Campbellsville, KY 86

The funeral service will be at 10amCT/11amET, Monday, September 16, 2013 at the Parrott & Ramsey Funeral Home, 418 Lebanon Avenue, Campbellsville, KY, by Elder Rueal Boils, Elder Raymond Alstott and Rev. Charles Holmes. Visitation 4pm-7pmCT/5pm-8pmET, Sunday, September 15, 2013. Burial will be in Jesus Name Church Cemetery with full Military Honors by the Marion County Veterans Honor Guard.




Pallbearers: Aaron Holmes, Adam Holmes, Jason Holmes, Caleb Mann, Josh Mann, Jonathan Read, Eddie Sharpe, Wes Sharpe, and Chris Shroyer.

Rev. Samuel Carl Holmes, Taylor Co., KY, Adair native (1927-2013)

Rev. Samuel Carl Holmes was the son of the late Alonzo Holmes and Florence Burton Holmes. He was born Tuesday, June 14, 1927, in Adair County, KY. He died Friday, September 13, 2013 in Campbellsville, Taylor County, KY, at the age of 86 years, 2 months, and 29 days.

He professed faith in Christ and attended Jesus Name Church.

He was a veteran of World War II and served his country honorably in the United States Army.

He was a retired employee of Fruit of the Loom in Campbellsville.

He united in marriage to Ella Johnson on March 1, 1947.

Besides his wife, Ella Holmes, he is survived by the following:
  • Five sons and four daughters: Danny Holmes, Terry Holmes, Pam Russell and husband, Jerry; Judy Jones and husband, Jimmy; Janey Read and husband, Lemuel of Campbellsville, KY; Linda Sharpe and husband, Edward of Greensburg; Ronnie Holmes of Finley, Ohio; Jerry Holmes and wife, Nancy of St. Paul, IN; and Sam Holmes of Greenwood, IN

  • Fourteen grandchildren

  • Twelve great-grandchildren

  • Two brothers: Edgar Holmes of Columbia, KY, and Rev. Charles Holmes of Louisville.
He was also preceded in death by two grandchildren: Bethany Mann and Todd Holmes, two sisters and two brothers: Marie Vaughn, Lucille Roy, J.C. Holmes and Herbert Holmes.
